SUMMARY:Kunstgeiger und Bierfiedler (Art violinists and Beer fiddlers) - a duo recital with Antoinette Lohmann (baroque violin\, clog violin) and Jörn Boysen (harpsichord\, baroque guitar\, zither\, jewish harp)
DESCRIPTION:As a part of the Camerata Tinta Barocca concert series\, international baroque musicians Antoinette Lohmann (baroque violin\, clog violin)\, and Jörn Boysen (harpsichord\, baroque guitar\, zither\, jewish harp) present a duo recital of solo violin literature from the seventeenth century for baroque violin and Dutch clog violin\, juxtaposing folk and art music from the early baroque. \nAntoinette Lohmann (Amsterdam\, 1969) is no stranger to South African audiences – she came to South Africa in 2008 for the first time to teach a masterclass baroque violin\, and this marked the beginning of her regular visits to this country to support the development of its emerging historical performance movement. She has been working together with South-Africa’s leading specialists in historical performance such as John Coulter\, Erik Dippenaar\, Hans Huyssen and Gerhard Benade. She has performed with Camerata Tinta Baroca and Cape Consort (Cape Town)\, Baroque 2000 (Durban). Furthermore she has been teaching masterclasses at the Universities of Cape Town\, Bloemfontein\, Potchefstroom and Pretoria. She is also an Honorary Patron of Camerata Tinta Barocca. She is currently teaching principal study historical violin and viola at the Amsterdam and the Utrecht Conservatory of Music and is also the principal teacher of the Historical Performance Department in Utrecht\, where she also teaches historical documentation. \nJörn Boysen (Lübeck\, 1976) is a harpsichordist\, conductor and composer. After his studies at the Musikhochschule Lübeck he went to the Netherlands where he studied with Tini Mathot and Ton Koopman at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He regularly performs in Germany\, the Netherlands\, France and at prominent European music festivals as guest conductor\, soloist or continuo player.  As composer\, Boysen has had works commissioned and performed by Musica Poetica (NL)\, De Nederlandse Bachverniging\, Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado (USA)\, soloists of Pratum Integrum (RU) and of the Berlin Philharmonics (D) and the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague (NL)\, amongst others. Apart from his work as a performer and composer\, Boysen teaches at the Utrecht Conservatory. SUMMARY:The Misshapen Pearls - A Baroque Story
DESCRIPTION:Camerata Tinta Barocca\, in collaboration with Friends of Orchestral Music and Bowmans\, present The Misshapen Pearls\, a concert exploring the true spirit of the Baroque. The term ‘barocco’\, originally used by 17th century jewellers to describe a misshapen pearl\, was used from the mid-eighteenth century\, when a simpler style of music became popular\, to refer the imperfection\, bizarreness and grotesqueness of music from the Baroque. This programme will focus on the stark contrasts found in Baroque music\, leaning on the idea of chiaroscuro (light-dark)\, as well as exploring the improvisational aspect of music from this period\, which was intrinsically part of the aesthetic. \nThe programme includes music by Castello\, Bertali\, Telemann\, Couperin\, Biber and Hotteterre\, with Vivaldi’s outrageous set of ‘La Folia’ variations as the centrepiece. \nWith Ralitza Macheva and Refiloe Olifant (baroque violins)\, and Erik Dippenaar (harpsichord) \nDate: Sunday\, 20 October 2019\nTime: 18:00\nVenue: Bowmans’ Cape Town Office\, 22 Bree Street \nTickets: R400 / R350 FOM members. SUMMARY:Folk101
DESCRIPTION:In this performance\, the early music ensemble Here Be Dragons will explore folk music performed in and around some of the main cultural centres in Europe during the 15th and 16th century. SUMMARY:2019 Cape Town Baroque Festival
DESCRIPTION:Since 2017\, the annual Cape Town Baroque Festival (CTBF)\, presented by Camerata Tinta Barocca\, has been a highlight in the Cape Town music scene. After the successes and exponential growth of the 2017 and 2018 baroque festivals\, Camerata Tinta Barocca (CTB) will present the third Cape Town Baroque Festival (CTBF) from 18 to 24 September 2019. In keeping with previous years the festival has the aim of bringing together practitioners of early music and a historically informed performance approach from across South Africa\, and also to invite international leaders in the field. This not only gives the Cape Town audiences the opportunity of hearing artists from further afield\, but also creates an opportunity for creative exchange amongst local and international artists. All of the festival events (eight events spread out over seven days) take place in historical buildings in the Cape Town city centre\, celebrating Cape Town’s architectural heritage. This ties in with the fact that the festival is hosted over Heritage Weekend each year. \nThe theme of the 2019 CTBF will be ‘Diversity in early music’ and it will celebrate the variety of styles and genres found within the broader Baroque period\, the broad range of performance approaches currently being practiced by different schools of playing\, as well as the diversity of musicians working in early music within South Africa and abroad. The 2019 festival programme features and exciting line-up of local and international early music specialists and ensembles. \nThe full festival programme is available for download from the festival page: www.ctbaroque.co.za/festival\nDate: 18-24 September 2019\nVenue: Various venues across Cape Town\nTickets: Ticket sales are open. Tickets can be purchased on Webtickets\, in-store at any Pick ‘n Pay supermarket or cash at the door. Pre-booking is recommended. Click here to purchase tickets online.\nEnquiries: Email info@ctbaroque.co.za \n  \n
