SUMMARY:Celebrating Handel: The Cape Town Baroque Orchestra with Lynelle Kenned (soprano) - Greyton Genadendal Classics for All - 22 May
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Handel: The Cape Town Baroque Orchestra with Lynelle Kenned (soprano) \nThe Cape Town Baroque Orchestra presents an exciting programme of vocal and instrumental repertoire\, celebrating the expressiveness and vitality of the music of George Frideric Handel (1685–1759). \nThe centrepiece of the programme is Handel’s Gloria\, sung by Lynelle Kenned. This composition\, which was probably composed very early in Handel’s career\, was lost for many years and only re-discovered in 2001 in the library of the Royal Academy of Music (London).  \nIn addition to the Gloria\, Ingo Müller (baroque oboe) and Annien Shaw (baroque violin) will appear as soloists in Handel’s Concerto Grosso in G major\, op.3 no.3\, and the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra’s Artistic Director\, Erik Dippenaar\, will play the Organ Concerto in F-major\, op.4 no.5. \nMany of Handel’s organ concerti and concerti grossi were written to be performed between the acts of his oratorios. Whilst the keyboard concerto was a new genre of the time\, and centred around Handel as composer-performer\, the concerto grosso harks back to a previous generation\, but was stylistically updated by Handel in several innovative ways. \nProgramme  \nGeorge Frideric Handel (1685–1759): \nOuverture from Rodelinda (1725) \n  \nGloria\, HWV deest \nSoloist: Lynelle Kenned (soprano) \n  \nOrgan Concerto in F major\, op.4 no.5 (1735) \nLarghetto – Allegro – Alla Siciliana – Presto \nSoloist: Erik Dippenaar (chamber organ) \n  \nConcerto Grosso in G major\, op.3 no.3 (1717–1718) \nLargo e Staccato – Allegro – Adagio – Allegro  \nSoloists: Ingo Müller (baroque oboe) and Annien Shaw (baroque violin) \n  \n“Tornami a vagheggiar” from Alcina (1735) \nSoloist: Lynelle Kenned (soprano) \n  \nDate: Sunday\, 22 May 2022 \nTime: 11:30–12.30 \nVenue: Moravian Church\, Genadendal \nTickets are R160 at Computicket: https://tickets.computicket.com/event/cape_town_baroque_orchestra/7182350/7182375/41913 \nFor enquiries\, contact info@classicsforall.co.za or coeniev@gmail.com or visit https://classicsforall.co.za/cape-town-baroque-orchestra/
