R150 – R200Event Navigation

On Wednesday, 9 April at 19:00, John Reid Coulter will present a solo harpsichord recital which promises to transport audiences into the expressive soundworld of mid-18th century repertoire for solo keyboard. Join him at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in De Waterkant, Cape Town to experience a rich variety of works by the Couperin family, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Jacques Duphly, Louis Marchant and Claude Balbastre, whose works range from expressive free-form preludes to quirky social commentary pieces offering us glimpses into the sophisticated humour and social complexities at the French court. He will also sojourn into the Iberian Peninsula for works by seldom-heard Portuguese and Spanish composers Carlos Seixas, João de Sousa Carvalhos and Antonio Soler, as well as works by Domenico Scarlatti, who was employed at the Spanish court.
The concert will be narrated by Anna Stoddard, well-known presenter of ‘Anna’s Baroque Bon Bons’ on Fine Music Radio. Complimentary wine will be served during the interval. Presented by Lutesong Consort with the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra.
